Battambang officials to boost crackdown on fisheries crime

Battambang’s provincial authorities stated that they will be setting up another headquarters in the Tonle Sap to boost crackdown capabilities on fisheries crimes.

This was announced during a meeting with fishermen and fishing communities on March 27, in Koh Chiveang Commune, Ek Phnom District. Sok Lou, Battambang Governor, confirmed that in compliance to the orders of Prime Minister Hun Sen to eliminate all fishing offences.

The Governor stated that the Provincial Administrative Unity Command is committed to cooperating with other authorities in cracking down and will arrest or educate those involved with the crimes.

Governor Lou said that in the near future, the provincial administration will establish a light headquarters to implement the management and suppression of fishing offenses at that place, and continue to seize illegal fishing gear. Officers will also strengthen monitoring to arrest those involved in fishing crimes and will send them to court.

The Governor also instructed and encouraged the district governor, professional officers of the Armed Forces that they must be committed to working together to ensure the prevention of fishing crimes in the Tonle Sap area.
