Cambodian public health threatened as food and consumer safety remains a challenge

According to the report of the General Department of Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Repression (CCF), Cambodians continue to face food and consumer safety problems.

CCF officials reported that through the market monitoring operations on January 20, inspectors in Tboung Khmum and Kampong Thom inspected food products and cosmetics at several businesses in the markets at the mentioned provinces in order to protect the welfare of the people.

In Tboung Khmum, professional officers confiscated about 61 kilograms of unregistered or unsafe cosmetic products. While in Kampong Thom, authorities seized unsafe food stuff and 500 bottles of water that did not meet health standards.

Authorities in Kampot detained a truck that was transporting seafood. The cargo was deemed unfit for consumption and turned over to the relevant authorities. The shrimp were discovered to have been injected with jelly.

The crackdown on tainted, dangerous and unregistered goods and food products continues in the country as officials fight prevent any lost of life or danger to public health due to those products.
